Q1. Is there any Age limit to apply for work as a Voice Artist ?

A 1. In Industry male, female & child voice artists are required. If you have clear voice, language command & also know how to deliver scripts as per requirement you can apply for voice over work.

Q2. Is there any Qualification or Certificate required to apply ?

A2. No. Voice Over & Dubbing is totally a Talent based work. Real Voice Artists, who are working in the Industry in Recording Studios for years actually have no Certificates as such. A voice over artiste is only judges by his voice samples & companies he has given voice for. Nobody will ever look into your CV, Qualification & Certificates etc.

Q3. People say that I have a good voice so I want to apply for work directly.

A3. Making career in this Industry is a serious game. It is never advisable to approach for work when you are unprepared or have no idea of Industry & are only depending on basic instinct like having good voice or good communication skills.

Q 4. Is there a Competition in this business?

A 4. No & Yes. This is a Quality Game. Here only those survive who have the real talent & know how of the Industry. There are so many people claiming to be Voice Artists. Many directly want to apply or are willing to work on low cost, or even for free. In Voice Over Industry those people who have the right talent repeatedly get the Mainstream work. So for example on an average if there are 100 claming to be voice artists, there will be only 10 amongst them who actually are the Artist Material & they will be hired repeatedly for commercial projects. For less professional work people are ready to work even from home from few hundreds to thousands rupees or even free of cost.

Q5. I can sound like that TV Ad guy, or make voices like cartoons so I want to apply, as I think I can well modulate my voice very well & I have that confidence.

A5. As a Production House, on an average we get around 10 enquires though emails, whatsapp etc from people who want to apply only on the basis of Instinct. If you really think you're talented enough & this work looks very easy simply hire a recording studio & as a first step make a studio demo reel showcasing your skills. Studios have professional equipment to record. Remember that no Studio will give you a second chance in this field. So directly approaching the studio for work while you unprepared has its potential risk. Apply for voice over work without studio demos is like applying for a Job without a CV. The studio you will hire you will give you script & help you make samples. Duration of samples should be 30 sec, 40sec or 1 - 2 mins max. Don't send mobile recordings as your demo. As any body can do that!

Q6. What is the way to Become a Voice Artist ? Should I join some Institute ? Is Training Mandatory ?

A6. Method 1 - Learning the Craft by Experience if you trust on your capabilities & also if you get some film production environment where you can get exposure, which obliviously can be time consuming & apart from that without a Mentor you will not have any direction. If you dont want to spend money you can take this route. Method 2 - To get trained by a Professional Voice Over Artist, who is known by the Quality of His/Her Voice Samples, Videos, Work etc. A Professional Voice Over Trainer whose work you have seen can undoubtedly shorten your path & provide you direct Industry knowledge & current trends about which it would be difficult to learn on Internet, youtube videos, Tutorials, or Institute classes etc. A word of Caution here - It is a Well known fact in the Entertainment Industry that many people who lure people of quick stardom. Promises of making you Actors, Voice Artists etc. in few days or weeks are very common in Metropolitan cities like Mumbai & Delhi. One should thoroughly enquire such places/ people, because most likely you will come out with findings that such people who promise you quick success & work are the ones who themselves have not been able to make a mark in industry or do the mainstream work, so to survive themselves in this field they start to sell the Dreams they once looked for themselves. They will claim you to make you voice artists but you will never get to see their own voice over work. A foolproof method to verify such place/ person is to look into their work profile rather than blindly trusting their words. For instance If somebody claims you to make an Actor in few days you should check his Acting work first, if somebody tells you to make you a Voice Artist in a matter of day or two or even few hours, check their voice samples, or videos & companies they have worked in. You will automatically get to know the truth. Only a Real Actor can tell you how much time & effort it takes to Learn Acting. These days people are in hurry, so initially they join such places & then blame the Luck or blame the Industry. There is nothing to be blamed, to be successful in this Industry you only need the right talent, & once you have acquired that Good Luck will automatically follow.

Q7. I don't have any past Experience of any Studio of Film, is there any hope I can get work with you. I don't have Studio demo. Is it full time or part time job ?

A7. Although nobody will ask you about any Experience, but no body will even call you directly without listening to your Studio recordings. Its a part time freelance work. For those who do projects regularly it becomes their mainstream source of Income.

Q8. We are a group of 6 Students in Mumbai & have done Mass Comm, we need Internship in Voice Over ?

A8. Voice Over Work depends on individual's performance & perfection, not on trail & error basis. Internships don't happen in this field.

Q9. How can I apply for work at deepakvoice.com or other studios in general ? I don't have samples can't I come directly to give test of my voice ?

A8. If you don't have ur studio demo reel mostly likely you are not a voice artist, Every studio will ask for your samples rather than directly calling you for work or audition. In case of Dubbing, Voice Acting or cartoon work even after your samples are approved you might still need to go for audition & based on your performance you will get the work.

Q 10. Hi, I got some training from some place, but still my demos look normal reads, how can i get work ?

A.10. Before joining any voice over training institute or workshops one must enquire about the person or the place where you will be taught. Whether the person claiming to teach you is a Voice Over Artist or not ?, Have you heard his/her Voice Samples, Have you checked some Videos where his voice is used. Any body can teach you things like vocal exercises, modulation etc. as everything is available on Internet free of cost as well. You can even learn such things on your own. The real Industry skills can be learned only from the one who is working in the Industry & you have seen or checked his work personally. So without falling into the traps of quick promises, shorcuts of over night success, certifications etc., look into the profile of the Person & work environment. This was a question asked by a lady who did some voice over training classes in Mumbai & then applied as an Artist with her voice samples named as discovery.mp3 etc. On asking about the profile of the Trainer, she had no clue about his voice over works, in terms of videos or voice samples. According to her she had only seen his videos on his website preaching about voice over industry & how it is done. She had not seen any of his works in the form of Audio samples or Videos & simply relied on words.

Q 11. Hi, I am interested in voice dubbing. I am a Fresher. I have no experience, do I need training ? Basically I am interested in part time work as a voice over artist. How will i find that I am suitable as per your requirement.

A11. There is no need to disclose it to the studio that you are a fresher as that will only lessen your chances of selection. Further more it will not the sound enggineer more than a minute or even seconds to discover that you are a Voice Artist or not. Training need depends on your Seriousness. But as such no one will ask for any certificates in this industry. Here only your talent is your certificate. The talent of a Voice Artist is showcased by Voice Samples, Videos, Films etc. No one will ask even your past work experience. So make sure if you join any voice over classes check the Commercial samples of the Trainer first, because at the end of training you will be judged on this basis only. Voice Over work is always done in Part time manner. A professional voice artist can tell you what work you are suitable for. In general people have mis conceptions if they have good voices, or fluency so they are Ready for the Industry. These days as media is so wide, almost every voice is suitable for voice over work. Voice Over Dubbing as it looks simple on TV, is not at all actually it takes hours of labour by Dubbing Artist, Sound Engg, Directors etc. & once you come across real dubbing session in Studio you will get to know what it all takes to make it look like that simple. Q12. I work in a Company where I have to do presentations etc. & they say I have a very good voice, & also on the phone you listen to me can you give me a feedback whether my Voice is Fit for Industry or not?

A12. Having a Good voice certainly gives to an edge over others in Voice Over Industry. Today Media & Industry is so vast that actually every voice has some requirement. If you believe or people say you have a good voice this shows the potential which you can utilise. One major thing which freshers in voice over industry often ignore is the Delivery Styles. Unless untill you don't know the various delivery styles as per clients expectations you will eventually be a part of crowd who think its very easy task to do voice overs.
